Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA on Friday thwarted a kidnap attempt by suspected terrorists in Surimi, Danko-wasagu local government area of Kebbi State, a border town between Kebbi and Sokoto states, rescuing four victims.
A military source who pleaded anonymity confirmed yesterday that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation, describing the mission as another demonstration of the commitment to protecting lives and combating insecurity across the North West.
The operation followed credible intelligence indicating that armed terrorists were carrying out kidnapping activities in the area. Acting promptly on the information, troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Unashi swiftly mobilised to the general area to deny the terrorists freedom of action.
On arrival, the troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower. Overwhelmed by the troops’ response, the terrorists abandoned the four kidnapped victims and fled into the surrounding bush.
The rescued victims were subsequently reunited with their families.
